AT A GLANCE

About the Department

The Department of Community Medicine at Shillong Medical College focuses on promoting and protecting public health through preventive, promotive, and social approaches to healthcare. Students receive comprehensive training in epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, and national health programmes, developing an understanding of the factors that influence the health of communities. Through field visits, health surveys, and practical training at rural and urban health training centres, students gain valuable hands-on experience in community-based healthcare. The department aims to nurture socially responsible medical professionals equipped to address diverse community health needs and contribute to the development of effective and sustainable public health systems.
